Business Anniversary Ideas: Celebrating 20 Years of Business
Life is made up of milestones, achievements, and anniversaries. This month, Bags & Bows is celebrating one such milestone: our 20th year in business. We opened our doors in 1994 and focused on becoming a leading supplier of exclusive designs and packaging products for retail store customers. In honor of our 20th anniversary, we thought it would be fun and interesting to feature other companies who are also celebrating 20 years of success. We hope you draw inspiration from these businesses, especially if you are approaching your own milestone.
The Dandelion Patch is a stationery store with three locations in Vienna and Reston, VA and Georgetown, Washington D.C . They create beautiful invitations, stationery, and announcements for births, weddings, anniversaries, and parties. If anyone asks Heidi Kallett, the owner, why their business is named The Dandelion Patch, her response is, “Just like the dandelion, we are about making your wishes come true…and having you leave with a smile.” This quote gets to the heart of The Dandelion Patch and their success these past 20 years.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, they have had a variety of special events and promotions throughout July. Some of their event topics included etiquette tips for events, gift workshops, and a children’s workshop for writing letters to the troops. They also had a giveaway for a District date night for one lucky couple. Involving their local community in their celebrations has been a great way to celebrate 20 years of success.
Skizzors Hair Salon in Niagara Falls, NY is a hair and body piercing salon. JoAnn, the owner, opened the salon 20 years ago as the first body piercing salon in western New York. At that time, in 1994, JoAnn said there were only 8 salons in the area and now there are closer to 108. As a small business owner, JoAnn says the most important thing to have is passion. It’s because of her passion for her work and business that has made her successful these past 20 years.
In the past, to celebrate anniversaries, JoAnn has given out $5 haircuts. For their 20 year anniversary, JoAnn is honoring 20% off haircuts if people inquire. Skizzors makes a point of putting their customers first at all times whether it’s during a big anniversary year or not. They always offer military discounts and respect every customer who walks through their doors.
Arizona Bread Company in Scottsdale, AZ is celebrating their 20th anniversary in October. I had the privilege of talking with Amy, one of the owners. When asked what their greatest strength as a company is, Amy said, “We’re family-owned, so we can roll with the punches.” It looks like they’ve been able to successfully roll with the punches these past 20 years as they’re still going strong. She said in October they will definitely be hosting some sort of 20 year celebration, but they’re still working out the details. I’d recommend checking back as the time draws near because I’m sure it will be a great celebration!
Mambo Gourmet Pizza, a family-owned company, located in Nanaimo, British Columbia is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Marc Fillion bought the company from his father two years ago. On August 16, they are hosting a 20th anniversary party. All of the proceeds from the party will go to the Vancouver Island Crisis Society. The event will focus on all of the positive changes the community has seen in the past twenty years.
As you can see, each of these businesses utilized at least one of these ideas for their anniversary celebrations:
- Community involvement
- Customer appreciation
For our 20th anniversary, Bags & Bows is celebrating with a new designer partnership. We’ve partnered with Whitney Caudle of Piper Collection to create beautiful new bag collections. If you’re interested in learning more about our designer partnership, you can read about it in this blog post.
In addition, consider doing something special for your customers to celebrate. After all, it’s because of your loyal customers that you are able to celebrate a 20th (or any other) anniversary. A business can’t exist without loyal customers, so spread the love to your customers as you celebrate your business’ achievements.
How has your business celebrated big milestones? We’d love to hear your ideas! Please leave a comment.
